Chemical Test For water

Liquids that does not have a color and an odor cannot be concluded as water. There are two tests we can use to test whether a liquid is water or not

1. Adding anhydrous Copper Sulphate to the liquid

Anhydrous Copper Sulphate is white colour powder. When water is added it become the hydrated salt CuSO4 . 5H2O which is blue in color.
( If the copper sulphate is already blue in color it has already absorbed water. heat it slowly to remove water before using for the test)

2. Adding anhydrous  Cobalt chloride to the liquid

Anhydrous  Cobalt chloride is a white colour powder. When water is added it become the hydrated salt  which is pink in colour.
